Day 1: In the beginning

So far so good. Last night we encountered our first round of challenges. Of course when you leave packing to the last night you're asking for trouble. Pedal removal was more difficult than Tim expected and holding onto car keys wasn't working for Michael. Each bike and trailer had to be taken apart and placed in cardboard boxes for cheap transport ($5). We finally got to sleep around 2:30am and woke up a hour later to hit the road with a McDonald's breakfast. Fortunately, there were no complications at the station. As you can imagine we slept most of the way to our first stop in Chicago. We had about 5 hours of layover till our next train so we put our carry-ons in a locker and walked around downtown. Since it was Tim's first time in Chi-Town we went to Michigan Ave., Buckingham Fountain, and up along Lakeshore drive. It was a gorgeous day as you can see by the pictures below. We made it back to Union Station in time for our next trip. We have all day tomorrow and most of Wed. on this train so we'll have a lot of time to catch up on sleep. If only our attendant would stop repeating herself over the PA system. Could be a long ride tomorrow.
